Interactive access to RZG compute facilities from the internet
The followup-project to DEISA is PRACE, so please implicitly change all references to DEISA into those to PRACE.
This document is addressing DEISA users with RZG as Home Site (responsible for the administration of the user's account).
DEISA users with RZG as Home Site can login to the HPC login node vip.rzg.mpg.de. Even if their project is assigned to a machine at a remote DEISA site, it can be convenient to login to the RZG HPC login node, for instance for data management purposes. It is also possible to access other HPC login nodes, e.g. the BlueGene/P login node genius1-fun.rzg.mpg.de or login nodes of remote DEISA HPC systems, via gsissh (on vip the gsissh client is made available with the command module load deisa globus).
More Details are given in the DEISA User Documenation on interactive access to DEISA HPC systems. The DEISA Primer offers a general overview about the organisational and operational concept of DEISA.
There are mainly two options for RZG Home Site users to login to vip.rzg.mpg.de via the public internet from your client side (e.g. a desktop PC or a notebook):
- access vip.rzg.mpg.de:2222 via Globus gsissh (details are described here)
- use gsissh-term (downloadable from LRZ)
- use gsissh from the Globus Toolkit (parts of the Globus Toolkit as well as your user certificate and CA certificates must have been installed on your client machine. For your convenience LRZ is providing a gsissh bundle for Linux)
gsissh vip.rzg.mpg.de -p 2222 -l rzgxxxxx
- access vip.rzg.mpg.de via ssh using a password. As a local policy, every RZG Home Site user can obtain a password.
ssh rzgxxxxx@vip.rzg.mpg.de
