Linux Compute Clusters

The RZG operates large Linux compute clusters, for all its users in general and

many Max Planck Institutes including :

Plasmaphysics Fritz Haber Institute
Astrophysics Extraterrestrial Physics
Quantum Optics Physics
Polymer Research Biochemistry/MIGenAS
Astronomy Chemical Physics of Solids
Ornithology

Scientists from these institutes run specialised scientific applications exploiting the capacity of the clusters systems to their limits.

The compute systems are based on Intel Xeon processors and AMD Opteron processors. Intel Xeon processors are mostly operated in Blade Center technology.
Most systems are equipped with Infiniband interconnect.
